Launch of the 5th New Generation Program Cycle
#NewGen4Climate
Climate outcomes are more effective and equitable when climate policies are co-created with young people from the Global South and take into account their lived realities. The New Generation Program is our flagship program with the overarching objective of supporting a new generation of young climate negotiators from the world's most vulnerable countries to ensure communities' realities become negotiation priorities.
Since 2019, we have accompanied young negotiators from over 25 countries and our latest cohort features young negotiators from Benin, Guatemala, Liberia, Panama and Timor-Leste who will undertake a 9 month journey to grow their:
Technical Expertise
Proficiency in key areas such as climate science, international law, negotiation and diplomacy with a focus on understanding the nexus of Adaptation and Loss and Damage at all levels.
Power Skills
Mastery of communication, strategic networking, confidence, and partnership-building combined with empathy and a deep love for peoples and communities in the Global South.
Mental Health and Resilience
Emphasizing the importance of mental resilience and wellbeing to navigate the intense pressure of high-stakes negotiations and ensure sustained effectiveness.
Through long-term mentorship and accompaniment
Receiving support from senior negotiators to master the terminology and better navigate the negotiation processes in the lead up to and during COP31.
The launch of the fifth cohort took place on July 9th with address from the chairs of the African Group of Negotiators (AGN) and Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group and a representative of the chair of Independent Alliance of Latin America and the Caribbean (AILAC) along with our partners DAI Global UK and CASA, Bread for the World and our long-term collaborator The Loss and Damage Collaboration (L&DC).
We are ever so grateful to our alumni and partners who continue to journey along with us towards shaping our shared futures.
